Sling Media Continues Battling With MLB By Ambushing All-Star Game and Copying MLB Promotion

Sling Media, whose television placeshifting technology has fueled a verbal sparring match with MLBAM for more than a year, is conducting some guerrilla marketing efforts around the All-Star Game this week in S.F. Company reps yesterday were handing out coupons for $20 off a base-level Slingbox and $50 off a pro version, directly across the street from the MLB Fan Fest at Moscone Center and other spots near All-Star Week activities. Also on deck were Sling marketing efforts that included buying fans free drinks at pubs near AT&T Park, a move dubbed "Sling Shots." The marketing is set to continue today, also with the aid of 75 Slingboxes signed by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, running the NL squad tonight. As part of the tie-in with La Russa, Sling has made a donation to the Animal Rescue Foundation, co-founded by the manager. Not unlike MLB's recently announced Actober.com campaign, the Sling effort asks fans to upload videos of themselves using their Slingbox, or show how they would if they owned one.
