America's office doors open each morning on an entertaining show featuring individual interpretations of the company dress code. Woo, hoo. Look at what that guy is wearing. Is that business casual or a casualty of business?Into that scene this fall strolled Dick's Sporting Goods, seller of licensed National Football League attire made by Reebok, with a campaign to get the nation's fans to wear their favorite team's jerseys on Fridays. The marketing team even developed a fake permission slip to hand to the boss. Two questions immediately come to mind:
1. Even if it will boost sales and make shareholders happy, should a retailer be encouraging an even further descent into all-too-casual attire in workplaces?
2. Haven't people been doing this for years anyway?
Taking the second question first, Dick's research, which mainly involved talking with store managers and staff across its 300-plus store chain, found the most likely places to find people decked out in their team gear on Fridays were Pittsburgh and Kansas City.
