The Arena Football League is expected to sign a deal to sell a digital rights package to Turner Sports New Media, the third such digital-content agreement for the cable network. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Turner will operate the league and all the team sites, as well as likely stream highlights and other video elements, while handling e-commerce services. League officials would not comment specifically about the Turner deal because a contract has not been signed, but the agreement was approved in principle at the league’s owners meeting last week in Chicago. “It will do for our new media what ESPN has done for our broadcast [business],” said AFL Commissioner David Baker. Turner already has digital agreements in place with the PGA Tour and NASCAR, and while officials confirmed active discussions with the AFL on a digital rights deal, they declined further comment.
