AmEx Launches Cardmember Site Around PGA Sponsorship

American Express, which became the first official patron of the PGA of America in August, is launching a program called Friend of a Cardmember that aims to build golf participation while helping build benefits for AmEx customers. The program provides a free friend pass for all cardmembers who purchase a playing lesson from a PGA member instructor. A new microsite at www.americanexpress.com/golf, which launched yesterday, allows cardmembers to locate PGA instructors and member courses. The site also contains information about benefits around AmEx' golf sponsorships, which includes the USGA's first large-scale corporate deal. Under the PGA deal, AmEx offers its customers high-end golf experiences and benefits, including tee times at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Similar to its U.S. Open tennis deal, there are also advance ticket purchases and on-site elements around the Ryder Cup and PGA Championship. Wasserman Media Group handles sports marketing for AmEx.
