If a studio is going to experiment with the launch of a major motion picture on the internet, the Jackass franchise is probably a smart bet. The Hollywood Reporter said today that Paramount Digital Entertainment and MTV New Media, co-producers on Jackass 2.5, will release the film at blockbuster.jackass.com, skipping theaters entirely in a rare move for a franchise that has already had two box office hits. Even better, Jackass 2.5 will be free online for two weeks starting on December 19th, “courtesy of Blockbuster,” THR wrote. How much Blockbuster paid for the privilege was not disclosed, though the 64-minute film is virtually guaranteed to generate enormous traffic. After the two-week run with Blockbuster, the movie will go pay-per-view on iTunes and via DVD. THR says the distribution model will be replicated internationally in “early 2008,” but with different partners.http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2007/12/12/paramount-releasing-%E2%80%98jackass-2.5%E2%80%99-free-web
