Stardoll Lands 'Nim' Sponsorship Deal

The teen girl-aimed virtual world Stardoll has landed an innovative sponsorship deal from the family film-dedicated venture Fox Walden for the upcoming movie Nim’s Island. Starting on Mar. 3, characters and settings from the magic-island themed movie, which stars Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin, will be featured within Stardoll, a virtual Web environment where young girls essentially play dress up with avatars. The site reaches nearly 8 million unique users per month worldwide, said officials, most of whom fall in the girls 9-17 demographic. Through Apr. 4, when Nim’s Island is scheduled to be released, users will encounter a variety of virtual environments based on the film, including a store where they’ll be able to purchase clothes and accessories depicted in the movie. Several Nim’s themed virtual contests are in the works as well, said officials– including a program where users will be able to redeem a code to retrieve Stardollars, the world’s virtual currency.
