Firefox Reaches Its Download Goal Despite Site Problems

When the final version of Firefox 3 became available yesterday, it seemed they were going to have a hard time reaching their goal of five million downloads - an arbitrary number, since the record for most software downloads in 24 hours didn’t exist before - simply because all official Firefox sites have died, unable to withstand all that traffic. However, the admins managed to bring the sites back up, and now a quick check of the official Firefox Guinness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness) World Record page reveals that 5 million downloads have been reached; currently, the number sits at 5,214,369. Almost half the downloads came from the United States (2,100,411), followed by Spain, Iranhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran , France and the UK. There’s still some time to go before the 24 hour limit is over, though; if anyone wants to break this record, they’re going to have to aim at at least 7-8 million downloads. Good job, Firefox team!
