Microsoft’s Xbox Live is set to premiere seven original comedic shorts this fall which have been produced by several high profile talents from the horror movie world, with hopes of turning one or more of them into a series or movie franchise. The gaming/entertainment platform is set to preview several of these shorts, which are being produced through a previously announced partnership with the production firm Safran Digital Group, at Comic-Con International: San Diego on July 25. Safran has tapped several well known horror creative names--including Saw director James Wan and Marcus Nispel, who recently revived The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise and will attempt to do the same later this year for Friday the 13th—to produces under ten minute comedic clips. Group Product Manager, Xbox LIVE Video Programming & Original Content, Scott Nocas, said that the series of shorts--dubbed “Masters of Horror take on Comedy— will first run exclusively on Xbox Live starting sometime this fall, and then after several months will gain wider exposure on Microsoft-sibling MSN. The clips, which will be ad supported in some fashion, have been conceived to appeal to Xbox’s Live’s core 18-34 year old male audience, which has embraced paid downloads of comedy series like South Park and movies like Saw since the platform’s launch.
