Stats Inc. Acquires SportVU, Provider of CNN’s Hologram Tech

Sports data provider Stats has acquired a rather buzzy company SportVU, a Tel Aviv, Israel based motion capture tech provider, for an undisclosed sum. The company, besides having sports clients, provided that famous CNN “hologram” technology that resulted in their reporters and other guests being “beamed into” the studios from remote locations. From a sports perspective, its technology collects positioning data of the ball and participants within the playing field in real time, and then churns them to compile information and develop illustrations and scenarios in the playing field. Stats is jointly owned by AP and News Corp (NYSE: NWS). and provides sports info, content and statistical analysis to a variety of publishers. SportVU was launched about three years ago, has nine employees, and its official service only launched earlier in January this year.
