The Univ. of South Carolina (USC) athletics department "is trying to have some fun at the expense of ESPN analyst Lee Corso," and Corso does "not appeared amused," according to Seth Emerson of the Columbia STATE. USC has started a Web site call letsshowcorso.com, where fans can "'throw' footballs at a likeness of Corso." Gamecock fans have been "mad at Corso since the former coach declared [USC Coach Steve] Spurrier never would win an SEC title at South Carolina." Corso declined comment on the Web site, and said on ESPN's "College GameDay" Saturday he would not "dignify it with a response." "GameDay" host Chris Fowler said, "I'm a little puzzled (about) the approach (of) marketing the team by attacking Lee. I don't speak for him at all. But I think (Corso's) reaction to the campaign was pretty evident if you saw the show." Emerson notes the issue could have an impact on whether "GameDay" returns to Columbia. Fowler: "I don't speak for what that would mean for the likelihood of 'GameDay' coming there. But I can tell you it doesn't increase the chances." USC AD Eric Hyman stressed that "the jabbing at Corso was meant in good fun." Hyman admitted that he "did not talk to ESPN before putting up the site," and that he hasn't since. The site was conceived and created by USC and an outside marketing firm that "included USC alums and members of the Gamecock Club".
