CBS Radio, Cumulus Media, Cox Radio, Entercom Communications and Greater Media announced Tuesday they were committed to the new iTunes Tagging technology, joining Clear Channel, which announced its support last month. All six companies are currently in the process of installing the technology, which will allow listeners to HD Radio to “tag” songs they like, store the information in an Apple iPod, and then purchase and download songs via the Apple iTunes music store when the iPod is synched with the computer. Unveiled last month, iTunes Tagging is the result of an industry-wide initiative between Apple, iBiquity Digital (the developers of HD Radio) and broadcast groups. The new tagging feature will be included in two new HD radio receivers from Polk and JBL later this year with additional receivers for the home and car to follow in early 2008. The iTunes feature underscores radio’s role as the place consumers go to find new music and discover new artists. According to a study by Jacobs Media, 54 percent of respondents identified FM radio as their No. 1 source of new music.
