MTVN Will Syndicate Clips Through AOL Video; Each Will Keep Revenue From Own Ads

MTV Networks adds another major online outlet and AOL Video gets to increase its ad-supported library under the latest video syndication deal. AOL Video users will have access a “vast library of clips” from Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, CMT, Logo, The N, Spike TV, MTV2, AtomFilms and GameTrailers delivered through MTVN’s broadband player; shows include the usual suspects—Jon Stewart, et al. On the business side, MTVN will sell video advertising delivered through the player, while AOL retains all display ad inventory in co-branded areas. AOL outsourced its download-to-sell operation to Amazon last month to focus on ad-supported streaming video and video search. The portal already has deals with Hulu, CBS and ABC, among others, so this should add some critical mass for the latest strategy shift.
