The biggest upset of this football season may have been Appalachian State University's victory over Michigan. But for the mobile-marketing industry, it came the day ESPN had more visits to the NFL content on its mobile-phone website than it did to the same area on its PC website. Game changer? Usage is up more than 200% year over year, according to ESPN. ESPN declined to confirm the numbers, but an executive briefed on the data said that for one 24-hour period, ESPN's wireless NFL section, with 4.9 million visits, topped the PC NFL section's 4.5 million visits. Mobile-measurement firm M:Metrics Senior Analyst Mark Donovan said, “Increasingly, we see people using the mobile phone because it’s convenient.” Donovan said that sports content “has the potential to be a mobile-web bellwether, if not one of the killer applications, along with search and weather”http://adage.com/digital/article?article_id=122885&search_phrase=espn
