Time Warner Cable is “close to a deal with NBC that will see it pay more in license fees for NBC’s cable channels -- including CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo and USA -- in exchange for a ‘super sized’ package of digital rights for the Summer Olympics,” according to Ourand & Mickle of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. A source said NBC was originally seeking a “double-digit percentage” increase in its cable license fees, which, for USA, is $.50 per sub per month, according to research firm SNL Kagan. The deal would allow Time Warner to offer its 13 million subs “access to 2,200 hours of live Beijing coverage via NBCOlympics.com and [VOD] programming, which NBC is expected to roll out this spring.” A Comcast spokesperson confirmed that the MSO is also “in talks with NBC” about the digital package.
