USA Today Buys ‘Action Sports’ Online Net Banquet; Agree To Share Online Video and Ad Revs with CSTV.com

USA Today tells us it has bought action sports site operator Banquet. Among Banquet’s holdings are social net BNQT.com and the Cold War Collective, an ad network of more than 20 sites and blogs focusing on such action sports as skateboarding, BMX biking and surfing. Financial terms were not disclosed. Aside from bringing action sports enthusiasts to USAT, BNQT.com also serves as a distribution network for over a dozen video portals and IPTV. Most notably, it has an exclusive arrangement with NBC to run content related to its Action Sports Tour-owned “Free Flow Tour,” an amateur skateboarding event. Sports certainly seems to be on USAT’s mind lately. This week, the Gannett newspaper’s website struck a video syndication and ad sharing deal with college sports network CSTV.com.

College sports network CSTV.com is partnering with USA Today’s website on a marketing program that’s centered around online video. The arrangement calls for CSTV.com to provide video coverage from its CSTV XXL service, which features about 100 Internet TV channels dedicated to live college sports. Another of CSTV.com’s offerings, GameTracker, is also part of the deal. The GameTracker channel has real-time stats of during particular match-ups. USAToday.com’s sports section will be able to access a number of different GameTracker pages, including the Sports front, college fronts and scores page. And by the spring, CSTV.com will introduce a daily short-form video channel specifically for USAT.com.
