WPT Signs Deal For New Stats Database, Creates Online Club
The World Poker Tour (WPT) announced today that it has signed a deal with Stats LLC to develop a statistical database that will be based on the aggregate actions of every final table hand in the WPT’s six-year history, accounting for more than 100 tournaments. The WPT also announced the creation of ClubWPT.com, a subscription-based online club where players pay $19.95 per month and can earn points to enter over 4,000 poker and blackjack tournaments. Both features are currently available at the WPT's Web site (WPT). The deal with Stats is not unlike its recent work with the Int'l Fight League to quantify and measure performance in MMA. Plans call for measures of how often each player folds, raises and bets, what those bets average, and how player behavior differs based on betting order within a hand or the quality of initial cards dealt, as well as more standard indices such as earnings. The information will be syndicated to Stats media partners and clients and is intended to improve fan interest in the sport and perhaps increase gambling and fantasy interest around professional poker. "This is another sport that is rising quickly in popularity but needs additional tools to help people get further inside and see it like the sport that it is,” said Jeff Smith, Stats VP/Product Development.
