NBA Extends Deal With SGI To Develop Digital Archives

The NBA today will announce a multi-year extension of its partnership with SGI to develop and monetize a digital archive of league play dating back to '46. The enlarged pact allows the NBA to put more than 60,000 hours of video content per year in its digital media management system, double the level of the original deal signed in '05. As before, uses of the content will include NBA.com and mobile applications, video games and scouting – all through a searchable database. NBA Entertainment Exec VP/Operations & Technology Steve Hellmuth: “This will take us to a much higher level - more and better content, and we’ll now be able to begin to have digital content in high definition.”
