StubHub to Be Online Provider of Secondary Tickets for MLB.com

EBay Inc.'s StubHub unit will become the official online seller next year for resold tickets for Major League Baseball, taking on Ticketmaster for a share of the multibillion dollar U.S. secondary ticket market. StubHub signed a five-year agreement to be the online secondary ticket broker for at least 26 of the 30 baseball teams, StubHub and the league said today in a statement. Financial terms weren't disclosed. StubHub, which EBay bought in February, is trying to narrow the gap with U.S. sports and concert ticket leader Ticketmaster, a unit of Barry Diller's IAC/InterActive Corp. About 3.5 million event tickets were sold last year on StubHub, with baseball as the largest individual category, spokesman Sean Pate said in an interview yesterday.
